About this deal

I honestly don’t have any idea what Indigo’s secret is at this point, but I do feel like somehow the Bridegroom’s brother will end up being involved. I think there is a lot to Indigo we don’t know and we may never know. The separation of current life and past really creates a mystery to her and the feeling that she may not be honest.

And yet the fairy tale or the myth that I think most applies to a long-term relationship … is the Greek myth of Hercules. In one of his tasks, he is supposed to wrestle Proteus, the sea god. And when Hercules is wrestling the sea god, Proteus starts changing shape. He turns from a lion, a leopard, a boar. He becomes the shape of water itself. Roshani Chokshi's transfixing first novel for adults is a fairytale-infused story about marriage and the secrets couples keep from each other. That, and an enchanted house off the coast of Washington and hotel fortune." - Today.comThe author has a fondness for certain words and they pop up in the narrative time and again. This needn’t be a big word. Even something as simple as ‘lips’ gets a regular appearance.

Regards to Hodder & Stoughton and NetGalley for providing me an e-ARC in exchange for my honest review. What comes next is a creeping exploration of girlhood, fairy tales and the secrets hidden within every marriage. Roshani Chokshi (left) with Kalyani Saxena (right). (Kalyani Saxena/Here & Now) Interview highlights So Roshani, what is next for you ? Can you share details of any future projects? Will you be returning to adult fantasy in the future?

If you combed through enough fairy tales, untangled their roots, and shook out their branches, you would find that they are infested with oaths. Oaths are brittle things, not unlike an egg…there is one thing they all share: they must be broken for there to be a story. Only a shattered promise yields a rich, glittering yolk of a tale.’ I am a fan of Roshani Chokshi’s writing, so I knew I had to read her adult debut The Last Tale of the Flower Bride, and I think this book is excellent. Even though I think it was marketed slightly incorrectly, it worked for me.
