About this deal

I read this book to my six-year-old and it really didn't capture her imagination. It did seem a bit dated but we quite often like old-fashioned books,... Billy Blunt is another friend of Milly-Molly-Mandy's. Milly-Molly-Mandy, Susan, and Billy often go around playing together. Billy Blunt lives with his mother and father who own a corn shop in the village.

Brisley, Joyce Lankester (2018-07-12). Further Doings of Milly-Molly-Mandy. Pan Macmillan. ISBN 978-1-5098-4506-4. Mother's first name is Mary but she is called Polly in everyday use. Mother makes all the meals for the family and does all the washing. This is relatable. Once I forgot my parents names too when I was small and they asked us our parents' names in class. I only remembered the words for mother and father) She is always busy doing things, and whether she is earning money to give a party, minding the village shop, having a picnic or going sledging, you're sure to have fun when Milly-Molly-Mandy's around!

Knowing what “blueing” was came from Ramona doing the laundry in one of Beverly Cleary’s ebullient books. Again, this has not been too useful, but proved an invaluable little nugget of knowledge when my passion for historical fiction and autobiographies of people who had lived in the ancient days of the 30s and 40s hit a few years later. The Phantom Tollbooth by Norton Juster – well, where to begin? Among a billion other gifts, it gave me “dodecahedron”, “din” (via the Awful Dynne, Dr Kakofonous A Dischord’s genie assistant, whose grandfather the Terrible Raouw died in the Great Silence Epidemic). “Humbug” as something other than a sweet (which I’d learned about in Enid Blyton). The hitherto unknown “piccolo” and the “crooking” of a finger arrived in the very same sentence. As you might expect from a book set largely in a city called Dictionopolis, it was a treasure trove. The copy I bought for my girls was like the others on the list which are cream and candy pink and beautifully illustrated. What can I say. I want to live in a world where people are kind and considerate I want to live in a utopic society where people are fair and honest and grateful for the little they have.

Plays: Three Little Milly-Molly-Mandy Plays (1938) adapted from Milly-Molly-Mandy Stories by Joyce Lankester Brisley; George G. Harrap & Co. LTD. [42] Brisley, Lankester Brisley (1969). Milly Molly Mindy Stories. George G. Harrap, & Co. pp.Frontispiece, front matter.I used to read these stories to myself when I was very young, and I loved them then, but I didn't know I would love them so much now! Okay, they're not the deepest or most complicated stories - but that doesn't matter a bit. They're just completely lovely! I always used to wish I lived in Milly-Molly-Mandy's world, and I still do.
