About this deal
RTÉ and Northern Ireland Screen today announced that they are seeking submissions from writers and producers to develop new original online dramas for the next season of Storyland. The online drama series gives emerging Irish creative talent an opportunity to make original Irish stories available to a national and global audience on RTÉ Player. In the early 1970s, Swiss chalet-themed condos and motels were widely built throughout the Glen area. The largest Linderhof units were built just north of Story Land and were originally owned by couples Larry and Barbara LaReau and Jim and Kathy Sheehan. They owned the buildings for nearly 30 years, until they were bought by the Morrell family around 2000 and adopted into Morrell Family Attractions. The Morrell-owned Linderhofs consisted of three main buildings: reception and breakfast (the largest building), laundry and amenities (the smallest building), and the guest room building. When they opened the door they were greeted by a stranger, an old woman who introduced herself as Frau Edith Von Arps. She was accompanied by several small characters who needed no introduction, dolls she had made based on classic children’s fairy tales. She was going door to door, selling the dolls.
Well maintained, however be aware you can’t go into any of the storyland attractions in the park as they cannot safely keep people social distancing in such confined spaces, also all the playgrounds on the park have been closed for a temporary frame of time. David Crean, Acting Head of Drama RTÉ, said: “ This announcement follows on from the success of last year’s Storyland on RTÉ2 and RTÉ Player whereMustard ,Balor Hall andEvery Five Miles had an enormous impact. The point and purpose ofStoryland is to foster new talent both in front of and behind the camera and we’re very excited help develop eight new dramas, with eight new teams. Three of these dramas will be on our screens in the Autumn and I can’t wait to share them with Irish audiences.” During the park's 60th anniversary year, a new wooden roller coaster, Roar-o-Saurus, was opened. If the script exists as a blog or in another format eg. prose, article, essay, graphic novel etc. is it eligible for submission?
Yes, if you can creatively justify it and if it works within the budget. If two producers are attached to a single project one producer must be named as the lead producer. The dramas commissioned by Storyland will be made available worldwide on the RTÉ Player. If you wish to create a subtitled version of your drama this will need to be factored into the production schedule and budget. Storyland will not provide additional resources for this. They are really fun and unexpected stories. I love how they riff off Grecian, Christian and pagan mythologies, blending them into something new. I had never head any of these beforehand and reading them gave me a better understanding of British history and identity. Although these mythologies are fictional, historical figures believed them so they influenced the ways that Britain developed and saw itself (Shakespeare is probably the easiest example of this with King Lear).
The contextualization of the stories in a historical set was surprising but welcome, if it did more than just scrape the surface.
Pinocchio’s Whale
The Pinocchio’s Whale party area is located between the delightful Whale Fountain and the Storyland Castle. Although this area is not covered, it is shaded by one of City Park’s famous live oaks.
