The Other Husband: A gripping psychological thriller
About this deal
Jo doesn’t need to worry about Sienna, though. She wouldn’t so much as flirt with another man, let alone another woman’s husband. She can’t say the same for Nikki, Reuben’s wife, though; the woman takes every opportunity to fawn over Greg, touching his arm, her voice turning gentler, more feminine, when she talks to him. It turns Sienna’s stomach. She should laugh about it really – Greg would never respond to someone so obvious. Nikki is a commanding woman, though, a managing director for a technology company, and with the exception of Eva and Jo, she treats everyone like one of her employees. Abby doesn’t know it, but she’s less than twenty-four hours away from meeting Sienna Wells. Her life is going to change beyond recognition, making her wish all she has to worry about is adjusting to their new life. The Other Husband" is a cleverly written thriller that starts with a rather silly decision at a dinner party that unravels the lives of several people. The author keeps the POVs of the different characters vague enough so that the reader more than once gets the feeling of unreliable narrators on all sides. A delightfully uncomfortable feeling is the result which had me guessing and second guessing a lot while reading.
The Time Traveler’s Wife is also, ironically, a product of its time. It is peppered with details from Niffenegger’s young adult years in Chicago’s art and music scene of the 80s, and steeped in the experiences of people who grew up in the 70s, giving it a specific appeal to GenX readers who were briefly ascendent as a trend-making demographic in the late 90s-early 2000s.

Abby and Rob have just moved to London and have become couple friends with Sienna and Greg. After a few drinks one night the idea of swapping wives is, unfortunately, put out in the universe. Strictly platonic, of course, just to not be bored with another typical night. There is no way she can tell Rob about the crushing loneliness, how it has her in a vice grip from morning until night. Niffenegger collaborated with Wayne McGregor on a balletic fable, Raven Girl (2013), performed at the Royal Opera House in London in 2013, 2015. Abby is desperate to tell her husband and Sienna the truth, but can't risk Greg sharing what he knows about her. She has no choice but to keep quiet. Then Greg suddenly disappears.
